I have arrived in Paris!! In the two days I've been here with my friend Aurélie and her family, I've already experienced quite a bit! It is customary to kiss cheeks as a greeting and one person goes 90, you go 10... When I met Aurélie's brother, he went 90 and I was just confused haha. It took me a couple seconds to remember and I guess I did it wrong... You're supposed to touch cheeks together and kiss, not just kiss the air. He only waves at me now. :P The French are very nice people. I don't see why so many Americans have the idea that they are rude. At one point I could not get to the right quai (I don't know the english word- platform maybe?) because I could not take the stairs with my bags. I ended up asking some policemen (they looked more like marines) where I could find an elevator or escalator that would take me to the right quai. They spoke VERY little English, so it was very difficult, but after a couple minutes they understood and they didn't know where I could find one, so they carried my bags down the stairs for me and made sure I got on the right train. I was surprised by how many people in the train stations asked me for directions... I'm sure I did not look like I knew what I was doing! Everyone I have talked to has been extremely friendly, even if they could not help. I've already been surprised at how well I've understood and spoken, but also other times I haven't been able to understand or speak at all! I almost feel as though I cannot speak French nor English at this point! I've already eaten different foods. For example: calamari, rabbit, shrimp, eggplant, blue cheese, and quite a few other things I don't know the names of. It's been interesting!
